How do you project manage? What are the key principles of project management? In this qualification you will come away with a good understanding of how project management works and how you can successfully lead a project.

Have in your arsenal ways to solve project problems and know which tools to select and use for different issues.
Gain technical know-how
There are many stages to project management. Give yourself the technical knowledge to scope a project, control, budget, monitor, break down workflows and execute. You will also be introduced to GANT charts and other technical project management support tools.
Be a communicator
Throughout a project, you will be expected to engage and communicate with a range of stakeholders. Learn how to involve stakeholders in the right way and how to communicate key information clearly.
Be a risk manager
Learn the importance of risk management and contingency planning in project management.
Develop leadership skills
In all projects there is an element of leadership required. Learn and understand some of the core techniques to successful team management.

Understand the importance of project milestones and how you as an individual can collaborate and contribute to achieving objectives in your team.

Career options
As a first stepping stone into the world of project management, this qualification will place graduates in a good position for a junior project manager or project assistant role. For workplace learners who are interested in developing their project management skills within their chosen industry – this qualification will provide you with the tools to succeed.
Once you graduate you could explore the New Zealand Diploma in Business for a greater understanding of leadership and business functions or enrol in a more advanced project management course/qualification.
Entry requirements
Academic requirements
40 credits NCEA Level 1, including 10 literacy credits and 10 numeracy credits
Alternative requirements
Skills for tertiary study (including literacy and numeracy) may be acquired through study, work and/or life experience. Students who can demonstrate these skills may be approved for alternative entry.
English requirements
If English is not your first language you may also be required to provide evidence of your English language skills as listed below. If you have no evidence of your English language skills and are a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, contact us for an assessment.
IELTS 5.5 Academic (no lower than 5.0 in any subtest). For acceptable alternatives refer to the English Proficiency Outcomes Chart.
Note: Students who have achieved NCEA Level 3 University Entrance requirements are not required to provide evidence of English Language Skills.

This qualification is offered by Whitireia, delivered fully-online by eCampus NZ.
Here’s how it works: first you decide which of the Whitireia qualifications you want to study. Then you enrol through eCampus NZ and become a Whitireia student with all the usual Whitireia student support, resources, and benefits. Your course content will come to you via eCampus NZ and you choose when and where you study. Once you’ve successfully completed your course, you’ll graduate with a Whitireia qualification that’s equal in merit to those studied on campus.
From 2023, Whitireia and the programme you have enrolled in will become part of Te Pūkenga – New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology.
