Whāia te Ao Marama: Whitireia and WelTec work collaboratively to build a culture that celebrates and recognises research and innovation.
Our faculty and kaimahi do research in a wide range of areas. All of their work helps develop our communities and holds us accountable for teaching that is modern, relevant, and unique. We take part in the government's Performance-Based Research Fund (PBRF) evaluation, which allocates funding to tertiary institutions based on research quality.

We are committed to supporting research throughout the Wellington Region. As a public entity, Whitireia and WelTec can be engaged to support the research of others. If you are a researcher and would like access to our campuses (students and/or staff), you must have Whitireia and WelTec Ethics Committee approval. Contact our Research Office at Research@wandw.ac.nz for more information – we’re here to support you.
We are committed to research that has direct benefits for industry, teaching and learning, community, and mana whenua partners – Ngāti Toa Rangatira and Te Āti Awa. Our rangahau, research and creative activities are generally in health, social services, creativity, information technology, business, engineering, and built environment. We also foster rangahau and research in Māori and Pacific paradigms.
We have established strategic and research links with mana whenua, Pacific communities, industry, and governmental agencies. We have a dedicated research and innovation team that offers all-encompassing assistance to our researchers and leads the development of research policies and strategies.
