Whitireia and WelTec Current Advice

This information was updated on 27 Paenga-whāwhā (April) 2022

We recently asked for your thoughts on a proposal to place our COVID-19 Vaccination Policy on hold. Thank you to those who provided valuable feedback on this proposal.

After considering feedback from ākonga, kaimahi, Te Tiriti partners, union representatives, and with the support of our Whitireia and WelTec Board and in alignment with Te Pūkenga position, we confirm that:

The Whitireia and WelTec COVID-19 Vaccination Policy will be placed on hold from 2 Haratua (May) 2022. This means that from 2 Haratua (May), ākonga (students), kaimahi (staff), and manuhiri (visitors) will no longer need to be vaccinated to come on to our campuses.

We believe that this outcome provides a balance between inclusion and equity for ākonga and kaimahi, while maintaining safe and healthy work and study environments.

There was significant agreement for the proposal to place our Whitireia and WelTec COVID-19 Vaccination Policy on hold. This support was mainly due to our high vaccination rates alongside the decision to maintain our existing health measures.

Feedback reinforced the need for ākonga (students) and kaimahi (staff) to remain vigilant and to keep up the campus health measures we have established.

Campus health measures

The campus health measures we have established help protect the health of our kaimahi (staff) ākonga (students) and community. These measures remain an important defence against COVID-19.

  • Stay at home if you’re unwell or have cold or flu symptoms (and let your tutor know).
  • Wear a face mask indoors. When outside our buildings you can take your face mask off.
  • Sign-in to campus each day using our Whitireia and WelTec sign-in app (or sign-in on paper at our reception areas).
  • Maintain physical distancing.
  • Keep up hygiene practices: Regularly wash hands with soap or use hand sanitiser; cough or sneeze into your elbow; use antibacterial wipes to clean surfaces.
  • If possible, stay at one campus each day and try to avoid travelling between campuses in the same day.

Again, thank you for helping us keep our Whitireia and WelTec whānau safe and well. If you have questions, or need advice or support, please talk with your tutor. You can also reach out to our Learner Support Services.
