Whitireia and WelTec | Te Pūkenga are committed to supporting Pacific ākonga and their academic success. Pacific ākonga are a vital part of community life at Whitireia and WelTec | Te Pūkenga. We have programmes, networks and a strong Pacific team who work across our Porirua, Petone and Wellington campuses to help you succeed. 

Support

Our dedicated Pacific team are here to support and help you throughout your learning journey. We host cultural and hauora activities with a mix of ‘in person’ and ‘online’ events to connect ākonga (students) and kaimahi (staff). 

Academic/Engagement Advisors - Pacific

Our Pacific advisors Windy Sione, Tuga Mativa, Leisha Williams and Temehari Laumemea promote Pacific success by providing Pacific ākonga across our three campus’ with study support, advocacy and pastoral care throughout their learning journey. Tuaine Robati, Senior Academic Advisor, supports akonga at Porirua and onsite in Rarotonga.  The Team also support tutors with their engagement of Pacific ākonga.

Health and Wellbeing Support - Pacific

Wai Ora is a primary mental health and hauora service for Pacific students. Wai Ora supports the wellbeing of students and is dedicated to equipping students with the tools needed to take care of their hauora. Individual or group sessions are welcome. Wai Ora is available through the week across campus.

  • Petone Campus, Pasifika Centre, Monday and Tuesday: 9am - 2pm
  • Te Auaha Campus, Level 2, Monday and Tuesday: 10am - 2pm

Ākonga Spaces

We have dedicated spaces for Pacific ākonga in Petone and Porirua. You will find a friendly and welcoming place to study, socialise or get advice and support. Come visit us. 

 

Ako Ake 

Location: Te Kete Wananga Foyer, A102, Porirua Campus

Hours: Monday to Friday, 7am-6pm. Weekends 7am-6pm

 

Pasifika Centre  

Location: Student Hub, Ground Floor of Tower Block, Petone Campus

Hours: Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm. After hours by appointment.
