How to calculate your Grade Point Average (GPA)

Use the GPA calculator to calculate your GPA on the New Zealand 9.0 Scale.

Refer A1-R1 Academic Regulations, Schedule 2a. This GPA conversion scale is commonly used by tertiary institutions throughout New Zealand. When you use the online calculator there is a drop down to select Grade for each course. In the ‘Credit Weight’ column you enter the number of credits beside the correct grade that you earned for that course. The calculator will do the rest to give you your GPA.

If you want to understand how the calculator works or to check it manually, this is the process:

The grade points for each course, including not achieved (D) and ungraded fail (F), are multiplied by the number of credits for that course, added together, and divided by the total number of credits to give your cumulative GPA.
