Danyelle wasn't a hairdressing apprentice for long before she realised it wasn’t the job for her – so she decided to switch to a trade.
Her journey started as a full-time apprentice at a local painting company where she learnt the basics, but eager to learn more, Danyelle studied at WelTec to build a deeper understanding of the trade.
Danyelle says the tutors at WelTec were always there when she needed extra learning support; “If I didn’t understand something, they were more than happy to sit down with me and explain it in a different way.” Not only did Danyelle form great connections with her tutors, but her classmates as well. She says WelTec felt like a big family where she could make life-long friends.
For Danyelle, painting is a therapeutic and rewarding job. She enjoys putting her headphones on and concentrating on the job at hand, but also seeing the finished product. Now instead of colouring clients’ hair, she’s painting and finishing their homes – and she’s loving every minute of it.
As she gains more experience, Danyelle hints that one day she might like to start her own business. She hopes to take on her own apprentices to give back to the community and help those starting out in their careers.
To anyone thinking of getting into painting – Danyelle recommends jumping into the programme at WelTec and just giving it a go.
