What you will learn

This programme is designed for experienced automotive engineering technicians who want to work in an advanced technical role, specialising in electric vehicles. You’ll learn:

Automotive Management

  • Learn how to oversee team responsibilities, including compliance management.

Drive Systems

  • Learn to diagnose, analyse and repair uncommon and complex electric vehicle drive system faults to meet industry standards.

Energy Supply Systems

  • Learn to diagnose, analyse and repair uncommon and complex electric vehicle energy supply system faults to meet industry standards.

High Voltage Auxiliary Systems

  • Learn to diagnose, analyse, and repair uncommon and complex electric vehicle auxiliary system faults to industry standards, while developing expertise in high-voltage safety and equipment inspections to internationally recognised standards. Gain practical skills in insulation testing and milli-ohm analysis to support safe and effective fault diagnosis and repair.

This programme is delivered through a combination of regular evening classes and short block courses, supported by online learning resources.

  • Rolling intake model designed to allow course completion within 12 months
  • Start dates are throughout the year (typically intakes in March, May, July, October) and finish at the completion of all four modules
  • Online theory one night per week via Microsoft Teams (Thursdays)
  • Three 2-day practical block courses (held after each technical module)
  • All sessions are recorded and available to download and watch at your convenience
  • Additional learning materials (PowerPoints, etc.) are also available to download

Continuation into electric vehicle specialisation within existing or future place of work.

Entry requirements:

  • An Automotive Engineering qualification at Level 4, or equivalent skills and knowledge.
  • A current workplace first aid certificate is recommended.
