Sample a range of trades disciplines whilst earning NCEA level 2 credits with our vocational pathway’s programme, or start with a level 3 certificate and gain basic skills that will get you ready to enter the industry as a laborer or an apprentice.

If you’re already working as a carpentry apprentice, you can jump into the level 4 programme, which you can complete part-time alongside work.

New Zealand Certificate in Construction Trade Skills (Level 3) (Carpentry)

Study the certificate in carpentry and get skills that are in high demand. Learn basic skills that will get you ready to enter the industry as a labourer or an apprentice. You’ll learn how to safely use carpentry hand and power tools while carrying out a building project, getting the core skills to enter the industry.

New Zealand Certificate in Foundation Skills (Construction and Infrastructure)

Sample a range of skills within the construction industries while gaining career, study, and employment skills at the same time. Students can get introductory skills in carpentry, painting, plumbing, and electrical trades. Learn how to safely use and maintain tools, perform calculations, and choose materials to complete projects. After completing this programme, students can then go on to study their trade of choice.

New Zealand Certificate in Carpentry (Level 4)

For those working as a carpentry apprentice. Get the best of both worlds, working on-site while studying the certificate in carpentry. This programme will allow students to become fully qualified carpenters. Learn through practical tutorials, evening classes, workshops and online assessments, while getting regular on-site visits by our highly experienced tutors.

New Zealand Certificate in Construction Trades Supervision (Level 5)

Get the knowledge, skills and aptitude required to undertake on-site supervision of construction related teams and work programmes. This programme is perfect for those in the construction sector who are looking to upskill.

Our construction students learn by building real houses that will become a family's home. Students learn on-site, gaining skills in framing, roofing, internal linings, fitting windows, and hanging doors. 

Learn the culture and processes of a worksite. Work with a range of materials and tools currently being used by industry. Become proficient in health and safety. Refine your skills with the help of our experienced tutors.  

Location 

Our school of construction is the biggest trades training facility in New Zealand. Our building site is located at 18 Western Hutt Road, Petone and on our Porirua campus at 3 Wi Neera Drive, Elsdon, Porirua

As part of the Construction Trade Skills (Level 3) Carpentry programme, students build a house from the ground up, giving them hands-on experience interpreting construction drawings, setting up timber and metal scaffolds, and applying safe work practices.
