Train with us to gain the hands-on skills and professional techniques required to succeed in the fast-growing industry of barbering. You'll learn the latest trends in haircuts, designs, fades, and grooming; master wet shaves, beard and moustache trims; and develop strategies to engage with a wide range of clients. Our salon open days give you the chance to build your portfolio with real clients, showcasing your progress and talent. Barbering is a highly portable trade. Once qualified, you'll have the freedom to work almost anywhere in the world.

Behind the chair: Meet Barbering Tutor Rachel Williams

Rachel walked into Whitireia and WelTec with over 20 years’ experience in the barbering industry. Now, she brings her wealth of knowledge to ākonga (students) through tutoring the Level 4 New Zealand Certificate in Commercial Barbering programme. We talked to Rachel about what to expect in the programme, tips for aspiring barbers and her hair and barbering journey.

Hairdressing services include colour and styling, barbering includes cuts and shaves, and beauty therapy services include facial and eye treatments, manicures, pedicures, and waxing. Our training salons are run by students, fully-supervised by professionals.
