New Zealand Diploma in Performing Arts - Māori and Pacific Dance

Learn Māori, Samoa, Cook Islands and New Zealand contemporary dance. Through this fusion develop the future of dance in Aotearoa. Build strengths in technique, performance and choreography. Ākonga have the opportunity to work with well-known artists while performing in a range of productions and events.

What you will learn

In your first year, you will develop a wide range of basic skills and knowledge. Your second-year courses extend that learning and further develop artistry and creativity. The second-year also adds creative enterprise to develop basic business skills.

Your training also includes contextual and professional studies, four specialist technique courses, and two performance courses that integrate learning from the technique courses.

Entry Equipment/Material Requirements

Students are given a list of requirements prior to starting. They are expected to provide the following as needed:

  • Black dance pants
  • Black t-shirt
  • Lavalava
  • Black sports bra
  • Black seamless underwear

Entry requirements

You will be required to audition.

Workshops for our 2023 performing arts Māori and Pacific Dance intake will be held on Friday 11 November at Whitireia Campus Porirua Room D339. Normally we would ask students to book a workshop time. However, due to the uncertain times we are facing, we are also accepting online video auditions for those applicants who are unable to attend the live auditions. Please see the information pack on the right of the page for more information.

International students

International Students: IELTS 6.0 (no band lower than 5.5) or equivalent.

*International fee displayed is for 1 year of study (equivalent to 120 credits) and does not include insurance and administration (approximately $924 per year of study).

This qualification is offered by Whitireia.
