What you will learn
A team of first-language speakers have put this resource pack together to provide a basic understanding of te reo Māori. The programme also includes a selection of well-known waiata and karakia. This language resource pack consists of recordings on a USB flash drive and a workbook that participants can work through at their own pace. Ākonga might take a month, or a year to complete the workbook, but it is recommended that least an hour a week is spent revising and working through the lessons.
This resource doesn't reward a certificate or qualification on completion. There are no exams or tests to complete, however participants can send their completed workbook back to be marked.
- Students must provide verified Identification of either a Birth Certificate or Passport.
- An interest in the Māori language and a commitment to learning.
This qualification is offered by Whitireia.
On 1 September 2022, the operations of Whitireia transferred to the Whitireia and WelTec business division of Te Pūkenga - New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology (Te Pūkenga). As part of this, all existing Whitireia programmes transferred to Te Pūkenga.
